Thoughts on Oklahoma and Texas’ Upcoming Seasons:
Unfortunately, (Or fortunately if you’re a Texas fan), Texas is back. They’re my pick to win the SEC, going 11-1. Their only loss comes at home against Georgia. Georgia is going to be a top 5 team in my eyes this season, and will upset Texas in Austin. Texas will be entering that game at 6-0, fresh off a win over Oklahoma, which I will get to later. They will have a pretty weak non-con, as they play Colorado State, UTSA, and ULM, all at home. Those are very easy wins for Texas, but the Longhorns also have to go up north to play Michigan. It might seem tougher than it looks as Michigan are the defending champions, but it won’t be that hard of a win for Texas. Michigan will have a new head coach and starting quarterback, and early season struggles will start to sit in. Texas doesn’t have another hard game until week 7, where they take on Oklahoma in Dallas. Both teams are going to bring their best, but more experience for Texas will give them the win. After losing to Georgia, Texas will win out, destroying Vanderbilt, Florida, Arkansas, and Kentucky. However, Texas A&M will challenge and test Texas right before conference championship week. As for Oklahoma, I predict they go 9-3, with losses to Texas, Ole Miss, and Missouri. Just like Texas, OU has a weak non-con. They start off against Temple, Houston, and Tulane. Tulane might be difficult, but because Oklahoma gets to play them at home, they’ll win. Their fourth non-conference game comes in week 9, when OU gets their first mid-season SEC non-con cupcake. That will be against Maine. Oklahoma starts their conference play against Tennessee, where they once again get the win simply because of home field advantage. Oklahoma finally goes on the road in week 5, when they play Auburn. Oklahoma takes down Auburn here, and I think this is the week where we start to see Jackson Arnold really hit his stride. After a bye week in week 6, OU falls to Texas in week 7 for reasons I stated earlier. They bounce back the next week with a win over South Carolina, but then lose to Ole Miss the week later. I think Ole Miss will be a very sneaky team in the SEC this year, and this week starts Oklahoma’s disastrous stretch of SEC games to finish the season. In week 11, they will take on Missouri, then have a bye, and then play Alabama and LSU to finish the season. Missouri will out power Oklahoma, and their offensive big 3 will lead them to a win. However, OU’s season doesn’t start to die. I think that they regroup after the bye, and maybe even being touted as a team that couldn’t beat good teams and could only beat up on smaller, worser teams. But they come out in week 13 and shock the world, beating Alabama. As for why, I think that the first season without Nick Saban and with Kalen DeBoer will have some difficulties for the Tide. We already saw Jalen Milroe struggle sometimes last year, and with a new head coach, we won’t see Alabama at their peak strength this season. Then, in week 14, Oklahoma beats LSU on the road, taking down their road demons. I don’t really know how LSU’s season will pan out without Jayden Daniels this season, but I know it ends with loss at home to Oklahoma.
Thanks for this week, and next week I will be doing the same exact thing, this time with the Big Ten newcomers, Oregon, UCLA, USC, and Washington. Then, I will have 2 posts out the next week, where I predict Oregon State and Washington State’s schedule and going over my 10 way too early Heisman candidates.
